This was the first high school to open in Douglas County, built in the early 1880s. Most of the school was rebuilt due to a fire in the early 1990s, reopening in 1992. It has over 2000 students and offers over 40 clubs, extracurricular activities, and sports.

Elementary through high school classes were held in the Cantril School building in Castle Rock from 1897 through 1907. Douglas County High School was built in the 600 block of Wilcox Street in 1907.
