The University of North Sumatra ( Indonesian: Universitas Sumatera Utara or USU) is a public university located in the city of Medan in North Sumatra, Indonesia . It is situated in Padang Bulan, in the Medan Baru subdistrict of Medan, close to the City Centre, with a total area of 122 hectares.
The university was established in 1969 as the Nairobi Campus of United States International University (USIU), a San Diego -based institution. In 1999, the United States International University, Nairobi Campus, established itself as a separate university under its new name: USIU Africa.
In 2002 it became a constituent college of Moi University and changed its name to Western University College of Science and Technology. The university is open to the community to use its resources e.g. the library and other facilities.
