The message I get (when starting, for instance, Outlook): "Microsoft Outlook has stopped working". It is more so that typically you cannot get third party apps outside of Store app when you are in S mode, but the new Norton 360 can now work with S mode.

Yes, Windows Defender should be turned off automatically but there is a service that might still be running. Replies (5) . Yes you can run them together but it is not necessary. If you have the paid version of Norton then just run that. To disable Defender go to Services and Windows Defender to Disable and stop the service. If you do not then use Defender and uninstall Norton. I use Defender on all my machines exclusively.
