Kingler has this ridic dynamic/perspectiveish look. I feel like there were three artists doing the sprites, one doing rad action sprites like scyther, one doing solid workmanlike static sprites like nidoqueen, and one doing pure derp magic. Rapidash is pure derp magic. 1st gen Blastoise looked better with less color.
I suggest Fire Red or Leaf Green (the remakes). Generation 3 (the generation these gen 1 remakes are part of) is the first generation you can transfer your pokemon from to later generations, which is really cool (pokemon from red/blue/green/yellow can't be transfered to newer games). Though if you play red/blue/yellow on the 3ds virtual console ...
Please note - generation 1 and 2 titles on the Gameboy and Gameboy Color systems will not transfer up unless you’ve purchased and played them on the Nintendo 3DS virtual console. There's also the part where, if they haven't been maintaining the batteries in their original gen 1/2 games, then the saves are likely long gone, unfortunately.
I always hear gen 1ers complain that “Pokemon designs after gen 1 are boring and uninspired” but most gen 1 pokemon are actual real animals with a little flair, i.e. Horsea/Seadra, Tauros, magikarp, sandshrew, vulpix/growltihe, krabby, ekans/arbok, ponyta/rapidash, caterpie and wurmple lines, pidgey/spearow, etc. and more over it has THREE purple blobs, Ditto, grimer, and muk.
r/pokemon is an unofficial Pokémon fan community. This is the place for most things Pokémon on Reddit—TV shows, video games, toys, trading cards, you name it! Gen 1 is terrible. Just played Lets Go. What a truly miserable experience. The typings are awful.
neat. I would go with squirtle, magnemite, nidoran (m) or meowth, and pidgey. I did Eevee, Slowpoke, Weedle, Pidgey, Oddish, and Vulpix. Very quickly shifted when back-to-backli Naclis showed up. Then my G-Max Eevee evolved into Umbreon and I was too shocked to hit B, so I quickly replaced it with a nice Spiritomb.
Gen 1 definitely had some QoL issues because it was the first game, but Gen 2's problems are more deeply seeded - an awful level curve because of the "non-linearity", very limited access to a lot of the cooler gen 1 or 2 pokemon, gym leaders barely even using Johto pokemon, a terrible story (rocket stuff) and a barren and underleveled Kanto ...
Chikorita is still weak, wild encounters and trainer battles are still far too underleveled, level grinding is still tough, Bug, Grass, and Poison type are still mediocre, and the Gen 1 Pokemon still steal the spotlight over the Gen 2 ones. I also dislike how there aren't any great fill-ins for the once-omnipresent elemental punch TMs.
Sort by: Best. Open comment sort options. Add a Comment. Aldospools. • 4 yr. ago. Your entire terrible tier is some of my favorite pokemon haha so... obvs this is very objective. For me, pretty much all gen 1 pokes are in top tier. Weezing mr mime and eggzecutor are iconic.
That and Psychic types didn't have major weaknesses in Gen I. There was no dark type. The only bug type attacks sucked (leech life, string shot, pin missile, and twineedle) And a glitch makes it so ghost type attacks (confuse ray, lick, and night shade) have no effect on psychic types rather than being super effective.
