Of course, to experience the range in all its glory, one must commit to hiking the complete Huayhuash circuit. This route is typically done in just short of ...

Eh, calling Huayhuash a bit more remote than Santa Cruz is a bit of an understatement. Santa Cruz trek is within Huascaran National Park in the Cordillera Blanca, about 2-3 hours from Huaraz. Huayhuash is in the opposite direction about 6 hours away from Huaraz.

Peru is especially amazing for it. Huaraz is like a mecca for trekking and wilderness backpacking. I did 4 days in the Cordillera Blanca and then 8 days in the Cordillera Huayhuash with a few other trips in between. Spent 5 weeks here and it never got old.

So far, I'm just harvesting info from comments on previous reddit posts. I've ordered Peru's Cordilleras Blanca & Huayhuash: The Hiking and Biking guide but it doesn't come out until March. So far, my plan is to spend a week in Huaraz acclimating while doing some day hikes.

Took this in the Cordillera Huayhuash mountain range in the early stages of an epic 8 day trek! Amazing way to end a month of trekking in the mountains of Peru's Cordillera Blanca and Cordillera Huayhuash. After that month, I decided to revisit southern Peru to try and do some of the things I missed the last time around.

Cordillera Huayhuash is such a special place. There’s a wide variety of potential treks you could create out of the area, and I opted to stick to the common path with a few differences. Most notably was taking the alpine route on Day 2.

  10. Cordillera Huayhuash Mini vs. Santa Cruz Trek (4 days in Peru)

They are both great, but the huayhuash mini will be more scenic. The Santa cruz is great, but there's really just one tall mountain and lake you hike by. Huayhuash will have way more. Either way enjoy! The blanca and huayhuash are some of the most beautiful ranges. 1.

My husband and I are doing a 10 day Huayhuash trek with Huayhuash Expeditions/Krusty on June 24th. I think we're the first in the group as of a few weeks ago. Our start date is a bit later than yours but throwing it out there in case you're interested and want to join!
