1) Other than SKIP what is it that Tivo does that the latest cable company DVR's from Arris, Pace, etc. do not? They all have "Season Pass" (series recording) features and even faster forwarding than Tivo and even seem to respond slightly faster. The only downside is the monthly rental fee. 2) My Tivo edge does not have 30-sec FF jump (or does ...

I suspect it's just going to be a company that provides guide data and holds a lot of rapidly expiring DVR patents and that's it. cwerdna, osu1991, dlfl and 1 other person.
Tivo Still OVERHEATING. LAST NOVEMBER I BOUGHT A 800.00 HIGH DEF direct tv tivo dual tuner. all of a sudden i started getting high temperature warnings. i have a lot of high end components and my shelving is well ventilated, but to be safe even though i knew the answers, i paid direct tv to send out a tech to check all my wiring and ...
The solution is also the same - record the show you’re watching live. It won’t happen if the show is being recorded. I believe if you press a button on the remote once in a while (ie: Pause, Play) it won’t trigger the message. Either way: this is a feature, your TiVo is working as it’s supposed to. --Chris.
Unfortunately, since TiVo and DirecTV had a falling out, you are not likely to see HD TiVo for DirecTV any time soon. If you want HD, and local channels make up most of your viewing, depending on your location your best option could be the new Tivo HD with a OTA antenna. You may want to add basic cable also.
The nice thing about TurboNET cards is that the drivers for them are already installed as part of the TiVo OS, so it is a simple hardware installation that usually takes only 10-20 minutes, and once you've installed it, you only need to change your dialing prefix to ,#401 so that your TiVo uses a network connection instead of your phone line ...

TiVo sells a product that is 100% compatible with cable cards and tuning adapters and every provider who uses QAM is fully capable of supporting them. Spectrum is DECIDING not to. That’s not TiVos fault nor responsibility to inform you.
TiVo's Canadian website still sells the 2-tuner Edge OTA there and it costs $300 Canadian ($220 USD), with options for monthly, annual and lifetime service plans. (Lifetime costs another $300 CD / $220 USD.) This is apparently TiVo's first-ever product for the Canadian market. It was introduced there on Oct. 1 last year.

The letter from Optimum states that PowerKey CableCARDs will no longer work - it does not mention anything about which manufacturers of PowerKey CableCARDs will or won't be affected - it just happens to show a Scientific Atlanta one in the picture.
That deal on weaknees looks decent and from what I've seen, might be easier to swap out the harddrive than the Edge. Hmm... will definitely consider the Bolt as an option. "Like FedEx, TiVo is now a verb." Series 1 - Philips 30 hour (141 hr, 5 min, lifetime), Series 2 - 540040 40 hour (224 hr, 38 min, lifetime), Series 4 - Premiere XL4 (638 HD ...
