Henry John Heinz II (July 10, 1908 – February 23, 1987) was an American business executive and CEO of the H. J. Heinz Company based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, US. His grandfather Henry J. Heinz founded the company in the nineteenth century, and he worked in a variety of positions within the company before becoming CEO.
The company is now run as part of Heinz Watties Limited, a subsidiary of Kraft Heinz. The company employs over 200 people in its two factories. The Dunedin North factory has operated on the same site since 1925; the East Tāmaki site in Auckland was opened in 1972 and now contains the current head office.
By 1900, the company had 43 employees and Chicago-wide delivery service. In 1904, Oscar Mayer began branding its meats to capitalize on their popularity, beginning an industry-wide trend. Early company specialties were "Old World" sausages and Westphalian hams , soon followed by bacon and wieners.
In 2013, Kraft decided to overhaul the Kool-Aid Man, reimagining him as a CGI character, "a celebrity trying to show that he's just an ordinary guy." [9] Starting in 2011, Kraft began allocating the majority of the Kool-Aid marketing budget towards Latinos.
In 2008, "Heinz Baked Beans" were renamed "Heinz Beanz", as the original title was "a bit of a mouthful to pronounce", according to the company. [8] In 2016, Heinz's advertising campaign featuring people using empty beans cans as musical instruments was banned by the Advertising Standards Authority on safety grounds. [9]
Kraft headquarters was previously located in Northfield, Illinois. Kraft Foods were made at around 160 manufacturing facilities around the world. Kraft Foods and Heinz merged in early July 2015, forming the new company The Kraft Heinz Company. As of January 2016, Velveeta Shells & Cheese is still marketed on a Kraft website.
