The first school in Colorado Springs was organized by Mary Mellen "Queen" Palmer, wife of city founder William Jackson Palmer, in late 1871. Classes were first held in a home on the northeast corner of Cascade Avenue and Bijou Street, rented by Mrs. Palmer for the school. [2] School District 11 was established in August 1872.

The City of Castle Pines is a home rule municipality located in Douglas County, Colorado, United States. [ 1] The city population was 11,036 at the 2020 United States Census. [ 5] Castle Pines is a part of the Denver–Aurora–Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area and the Front Range Urban Corridor.
Elementary through high school classes were held in the Cantril School building in Castle Rock from 1897 through 1907. Douglas County High School was built in the 600 block of Wilcox Street in 1907. The brick building burned down in a 1909 fire and was replaced with a rhyolite building. On May 28, 1937, the building was damaged by a tornado. [3]
