With further investigation I realized that the foodsaver bags with english/spanish text also had a noticeable textural difference. The outside of the english/spanish bags had one side of the webbed texture (these bags failed to seal everytime, in both devices) and the Foodsaver bags lacking the outside texturing on either side sealed everytime ...
My foodsaver reseals mylar bags so I assume they all will. I noticed that zip lock freezer bags do a better job than regular (less hop smell when I open the freezer so it's not scientific). When I used the foodsaver and their regular bags, I can't smell any hops in the freezer. I think the mylar is overkill unless you're storing for 3 years.
1. Location. West Lafayette. Apr 1, 2012. #1. Wanted to share a technique for storing hops using a FoodSaver that works for me. I'm using model V2244. Austin has oxygen-barrier heat seal bags which are about 8 cents apiece. (From the looks of the labeling they seem to be designed to hold electronic components in a static-free bag.)
i have the 800. you should be able to still find this model for cheap. its the larger version but it doesnt have the seal lever which makes it a little easier to work. all of them that i have used all pull about the same vacuum. oh and i use walmart bags instead of the foodsaver bags and they work just as well. i sealed up 10 dozen tamales on ...
Oct 16, 2015. #2. I found the Mylar bags don't work great with my Foodsaver unfortunately. They work ok, but need a rougher surface to suck the air out. It sort of works if you squeeze out as much air as possible. If you are OK with putting them in Foodsaver bags, it works great.
In my experience most of the hacks to make mylar bags vacuum seal-able with foodsaver and similar devices do not work very well. As some others have pointed out, while I am able to pull a vacuum on the mylar using "straws" or strips of the foodsaver embossed bags, the sealer does a poor job creating an airtight seal around this and the bags ...
The mylar bags are too smooth and collapse when you use them in the foodsaver. If you cut a little piece of a foodsaver roll (the rough side), you can tuck that in the opening of the mylar bag. The rough surface of the foodsaver roll holds it open for the vacuum to work and the piece of bag is just incorporated into the seal.
Whether you still have the foil bags your hops came in, or you've transferred them to ziplocs or other sealable bags, don't discard those bags when you move to seal-vacumming your hops. If you're currently storing your hops in general ziploc bags, simple close the ziploc seal and leave about 1/2 inch of the seal open, then place that bag inside ...
Using a large spoon, scoop mixture into Foodsaver bags weighing 7 pounds of mixture, vacuum package and put in freezer or refrigerate until needed. This deer treat is a somewhat salty/sweet treat that is nutritious for deer, high protein, high carbohydrates and high plant based fat all equals healthy body weights, larger yearlings and
I have foodsaver zipper bags. They zip like a ziplock, but also have a spot where you can take out the bag. If I roll up 1-lb opened bags of hops, I can fit a couple in there. Problem is, I tried it for the first time last week and realized I needed a separate adapter for those bags. I ordered one online and should get it within a week.
