Personally I think Phil Rudd was a great drummer and the best drummer for AC/DC. Why? Because he has "feel" and "groove" that worked perfectly with the syncopations of Malcolm. Phil had dynamics and knew how to build intensity. He also played some very sly "sounds easy but really isn't" types of drum parts and fills.
Jan 25, 2018. #70. Substance and foundation are the real key ingredients to being a great drummer. Phil Rudd is as good as it gets in that department. He just knows exactly where to place his kick, snare, and hi hat against the guitars, bass and vocals, to make the band and the music sound awesome and huge.
Phil Rudd has mastered the fundamental of drumming, the groove. Those tasteful 2 and 4 back-beats are so enjoyable, and full of delectable dynamics and rock solid swinging feel and time. Even the way Phil opens his hi-hat oozes coolness and authority.
Way better than you'd think. Its easy to dismiss his drumming as simple, but play along on drums sometime. His fills and hits are in really weird places, and his groove is very hard to cop. I have no idea how come I'm 5 years late hearing about this. Maybe Phil's solo album didn't make much of a splash. It should have. At least based on this song, it's pretty good! Great groove to it, I like the vocals, the guitar riff and the angry woman is pretty cute..
I often read people describing Phill's style by saying he plays "slightly behind the beat". I still have trouble wrapping my head around that concept. Initially, I was thinking "How can the guy who is setting the beat be playing behind it?". I think what they are trying to convey is that the...

Dec 23, 2012. #3. But there is...Link on the far right. I ordered a dogear px90 for my jr. Took four weeks to ship to Canada, the wait was because they needed to have a dogear base plate made, as it is not a standard production piece for them. I can say that the pickup was well worth the wait.
