USS Valley Forge (CV/CVA/CVS-45, LPH-8) was one of 24 Essex-class aircraft carriers built during and shortly after World War II for the United States Navy.The ship was the first US Navy ship to bear the name, and was named after Valley Forge, the 1777–1778 winter encampment of General George Washington's Continental Army.

Spadefish completed overhaul in July 1974 and resumed operations along the U.S. East Coast.
She was berthed at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, Virginia, from 1999 till 2010. On 9 July 2010, a contract to dismantle L. Y. Spear was issued to ESCO Marine, Brownsville, Texas. She departed the Norfolk Naval Shipyard at the end of August 2010 [ 1 ] and was completely dismantled by 14 July 2011.
