Built in 1758, it is one of the nation's finest examples of German-Georgian colonial architecture. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 2016.
The land that this historic district sits on was once the estate of Thomas W. Palmer. In 1925, Walter Briggs hired Albert Kahn to design an apartment building at 1001 Covington. Forty buildings total were constructed in the district by multiple architects, including Weidmaier and Gay, Robert West, and William Kapp.
