Yeah it’s really weird, I had the extension all set up, and today it kept not working and saying it wasn’t updated (I updated everything, uninstalled it, reinstalled it, even tried on a different browser and downloading the extension fresh and it said it was out of date) and going default just says it can’t verify and I tried later today and now apparently the server isn’t responding ...
I remember on Fmovies once it kept the place in something I was watching, but that might only have been because I kept the tab open. Kind of only really worth using these free sites if you want to watch a full movie in one sitting. I know of alternatives that DO save one's history, I was just wondering whether these type of free sites do the same.

How are sites like fmovies, putlocker, bflix etc getting their content? Is there any api or are there any sources? Can someone help me point towards the resources that can guide me? Basically I am thinking of exploring/building a site like that for personal use. I found some apis like 2embed etc, but They are not like the ones Bflix uses.
If you live in a country that monitors torrent traffic you need a VPN for sure. But you also have the option to use a service like RealDebrid which transforms the torrents to https direct links. This way you will have no problem. But like a VPN, ReadDebrid is not free too, you will have to pay for it.
Why not also mention that these are sites where you can watch movies online free without signing up or giving your card details. I've been using both for 2 years now. The quality is so fast that it possible to use a 40 inch monitor. Super cool seeing how things have progressed. The best streaming places have come a long way since 2010.
