    For vintage pens, J.Herbin and Pelikan are safe and dry inks, so less chance of feathering on cheap paper. Other than that, Montblanc, Waterman, Aurora, Parker and Sheaffer modern inks are all considered safe for vintage pens with a few singular exceptions in their lineups.

    Without the UC - keep up the soaking/flushing in the ammonia solution or technical pen cleaner. Also, if the ink residue is showing up as very light, you might try flushing with room temp. water, then let the excess water "wick" out into paper toweling, fill the pen with ink and see how it goes.

You can use inkjet inks, but you would be better off getting some CYMK inks from one of the regular fountain pen ink makers (Noodler's or Private Reserve, for instance). Inkjet inks, especially the older ones, are not archival, and the Epson inks in particular would fade horribly.
