In 1889 Montana became a state. At that time Rocky Point was in Chouteau County, but all of Chouteau County south of the Missouri River was traded off to Fergus County for $2,500, and Wilder became part of Fergus County. In 1900, Rocky Point still remained a river crossing with a ferry, an operating store and bar to serve the area.
