The 12-story Elmer Holmes Bobst Library, designed by Philip Johnson and Richard Foster, is the flagship of a 10-library system that provides students and faculty members with access to the world’s scholarship and serves at the center of the University community’s intellectual life.
Use the Catalog to search for books (electronic and print), articles, databases, journals, media, audio and video, course reserve items, and more.
Locations. NYU Libraries is a multi-library system whose resources and services constantly grow in support of one of the world’s great academic research institutions. Its flagship is the Elmer Holmes Bobst Library on Washington Square.
These reservable spaces are available to all NYU students, and are recommended for quiet, individual study. Reserve a room.
NYU Libraries’ special collections and archives house significant resources, rare books, personal papers, University history, and more. Additionally, they sponsor numerous events throughout the year and contribute widely to many publications.

About New York University Libraries. From the time of its founding in 1831 until 1973, New York University housed its library collections in various campus locations. A major gift from Elmer Holmes Bobst and his wife, Mamdouha, enabled the University to bring its various collections together in a new library on Washington Square South in 1973.
