It seems to be (roughly): 1. Clean area with damp cloth. Apply base coat. 2. After 10 mins use damp sponge (on base coat bottle) to smooth surface then wash sponge clean. 3. After another 10 minutes apply clear coat, leave 20 minutes to dry.
Yesterday I had someone else apply touch up paint to a few (8) nicks on the hood of my beautiful 2 mos old Fusion Red xc40. He used the Volvo touch up paint system (with the 2 bottles). He followed the directions included and now there is a raised bump on each of the nicks. 2 of the 8 nicks still show a silver color on the spots.
The touch up paint does not want to stick to this at all, either pure paint or a 50/50 paint/clear coat mix. Even a light de-nib takes it right off. Should I use something else first for these more problematic areas?

ShovelBoy. 40 posts · Joined 2016. #5 · Jul 18, 2016. Why not try the Volvo touch up kits? You paint the scratch, wipe off the excess. wait 20 minutes. paint on the clear coat. wait 2 days. polish. Very quick and easy, and will make it better if not perfect. You'd have to try quite hard to stuff it up and make things worse.
Oh that is quite big..perhaps you were going past/overtaking a lorry and kicked up a whopper of a stone. However saying that...where I had my stone chips, it revealed a black under layer, my car is sand metallic paint, looking at that, from my perspective I could be wrong, that doesn't look like a stone chip and perhaps some corrosive liquid dropped there (bird poo left too
The corner of the bumper was sanded down, primed, baked, flatted off and then the colour coat applied and baked. It took about 2.5 hours, cost £95 and the paint match is perfect (though as mine is a solid colour it's probably easier to do). You can't tell it was damaged and repaired.

I had scratches on mine, but managed to touch them up with Volvo touch up paint. There is a paint code that matches the colour perfectly.
