  2. AF and AT breaker notation - Mike Holt's Forum

    forums.mikeholt.com/threads/af-and-at-breaker-notation.827

Re: AF and AT breaker notation Frame rating and trip rating are often different, although often the same. Adjustable breakers certainly are an example. The frame rating is a maximum rating of the based on the design of the particular type of breaker, and the trip rating is some multipler, 1 or less, that the breaker is set to trip at.

  3. Benchtop circuit breaker - Electrical Engineering Stack Exchange

    electronics.stackexchange.com/questions/214507

Feb 1, 2016 at 13:38. 1. This could be a really convenient idea: E.g., maybe I want the option of connecting my work to receptacles protected by 5A, 10A, or 15A, plus some that are thermal-trip only, some magnetic, some GFCI, and some arc-fault. I can't find any "work-box" mounted breakers I could put right next to the indicated receptacle to ...

  5. What is the purpose of neutral disconnect in a circuit breaker?

    electronics.stackexchange.com/questions/688210/what-is-the-purpose-of-neutral...

This MEN link reduces the resistance of any electrical fault to a protective earth (say, from the active to the equipment case, such as a knife falling into a toaster such that the toaster case becomes "live"), and means that the circuit breaker will trip much faster. \$\endgroup\$ –

  6. Will a DC circuit breaker trip due to high voltage?

    electronics.stackexchange.com/questions/403068/will-a-dc-circuit-breaker-trip...

    12. You need to keep the voltage less than 32V, but not because the breaker will trip if you go higher than that. The problem is that if the voltage is too high when the breaker trips, it might not be able to stop the current because of arcing. Share. Cite.

  7. Sizing a breaker for a 24VDC power supply

    electronics.stackexchange.com/questions/388699

So looks like I might just have to spec out the breaker for the power supply based on the components inside it. Thank you. I would check UL 508 then, although a garden-variety UL listed power supply should be OK to run on an ordinary branch circuit (15A, appropriate voltage for the supply), as it will have a supplementary protector (fuse ...

  8. Explain the AS/AF, AT/AF sizes | Information by Electrical ...

    forums.mikeholt.com/threads/explain-the-as-af-at-af-sizes.143837

AF/AT are the same concept for Circuit Breakers, except Amp Frame / Amp Trip. Frame sizes vary a lot more from mfrs to mfr, so some have 100AF, some are 125AF, some only start at 150AF, etc. then in larger frames, some mfrs have dropped some old traditional frame sizes such as 600AF because their newer 800AF is the same physical size anyway.

  9. Terminating stranded wire on a circuit breaker | Information by...

    forums.mikeholt.com/threads/terminating-stranded-wire-on-a-circuit-breaker.10127

I am terminating a #12 awg stranded wire on a Siemens QP type circuit breaker installed in a load center. The QP breaker has a screw type terminal. When making this connection some of the wire strands will push out from under the screw. The result is an inferior connection. I could tin the wire or install a ferrule.

  10. Does a circuit breaker trip depending on voltage or current?

    electronics.stackexchange.com/questions/303202

Magnetic trip, where a surge of current is significantly above circuit ratings (e.g. 200 amps on a 20A breaker). This trips instantly. Thermal trip, where a mild overcurrent (30A on a 20A breaker) is threatening to eventually overheat the wires.

  11. Can an Adjustable Circuit Breaker be adjusted while Energized?

    electronics.stackexchange.com/questions/553972

For a Low Voltage Circuit Breaker, such as the Legrand DPX3 630, 3x400A, 36kA, 400V, we have adjustment dials to change the properties of the magnetic (Magnetic adjustable from 5 to 10 In) and or thermal (Thermal adjustable from 0.8 to 1 In) trip curve.
