1941. Publication place. Canada. As For Me and My House is a novel by Canadian author Sinclair Ross, first published in 1941 by the American company Reynal and Hitchcock, with little fanfare. Its 1957 Canadian re-issue, by McClelland & Stewart, as part of their New Canadian Library line, began its canonization, mostly in university classrooms.
Background. The song was written and produced by Brian Holland, Lamont Dozier, Edward Holland, Jr., and Ron Dunbar.Because of the then still-pending lawsuit against Holland-Dozier-Holland from their former employers, Motown, the trio credited themselves with the pseudonym "Edythe Wayne" for this song and many other early Invictus/Hot Wax releases.
Tammi Terrell originally recorded the song in a different arrangement, but it was not released until her Irresistible album released in January 1969. The song was prominently featured in an episode of the hit 1980s show Moonlighting and was one of the tunes included on the show's hit soundtrack.
