The administrative divisions of New York are the various units of government that provide local services in the American state of New York. The state is divided into boroughs, counties, cities, towns, and villages. (The only boroughs, the five boroughs of New York City, have the same boundaries as their respective counties.)

The Military Tract of Central New York, also called the New Military Tract, [1] consisted of nearly two million acres (8,100 km 2) of bounty land set aside in Central New York to compensate New York's soldiers after their participation in the Revolutionary War .

Cities with populations of less than 50,000 are eligible to become towns through reversion. The newest town and newest former town are Bedford in Bedford County, which ceased to be an independent city in 2013, and St. Charles in Lee County, which disincorporated in 2022.
