The Recreation Passport is required for motorized vehicle access to state parks and recreation areas and state-managed boating access sites, state forest campgrounds, thousands of miles of trails and other outdoor spaces – all year long!
Any motorized vehicle entering a state park, boating access site and/or state forest campground is required to have a Recreation Passport for entry. Please note that the passport is also required for trailhead parking and harbors.

The Michigan Recreation Passport is your VIP pass to Michigan’s state parks, recreation areas, and more. It features a small “P” on your vehicle’s registration and license plate sticker, signaling to park officers that you’re ready for adventure.
The pass allows holders to visit more than 100 state parks and recreation areas in Michigan for one year or until the registration vehicle the pass is registered to expires.
The passes can be used to enter state parks, state forest campgrounds, boat launches and trail heads. The passes also allow access to parking for trails and free outdoor events and classes.
Before you go, you'll need a state park pass. Michigan residents can purchase the Recreation Passport through the Secretary of State when renewing license tabs for just $14, or $7 for motorcycles. When purchasing at the park residents will pay a $5 convenience fee.
