I open the app and I just see basic screens now. I've also got McAfee Safe Connect. Plus on the Windows 10 Start Menu there is a separate McAfee folder with a McAfee app that won't open. What's going on? Is this a bug in the software? I'm thinking of canceling my McAfee subscription. EDIT: The problem is fixed. The McAfee app works OK now.

Umm, no. Yes - and 2022 also, still trash. I couldn't give a crap how many scandals John Mcafee has been in if the software was good, but as far as I've seen, over several years and multiple machines, and views from dozens of colleagues, Mcafee is essentially corporate malware.
Windows Security** (Defender) comes with Windows and is Free anddoes just as good a job as McAfee and it is free. I suggest you Uninstall McAfee using their Uninstall Tool MCPR.exe. If you love McAfee and want to keep paying for it, you can download it again and reinstall it after removing it. 1.
MBF is an okay removal tool, but MBP is an utterly sucky protection tool. It's not good enough to replace other products and, as it can and does cause conflicts with other antiviruses, it shouldn't be used alongside them. There's no reason or benefit to using this product.
