Basically MediaWiki has deprecated some HTML table elements. Though those elements are not deprecated outside MediaWiki. An illustrated example for Help:Table: <thead>, <tbody>, <tfoot>, <colgroup>, and <col> elements are currently not supported in MediaWiki. Those tags are ejected to above the table as plain text.
