WASHINGTON, DC — The United States Postal Service today announced that all branches will be closed in observance of Christmas and New Year’s Day. This closure affects all postal services, including retail services, mail delivery and blue collection boxes.
In the United States, a postal holiday is a federal holiday recognized by the United States Postal Service, during which no regular mail is delivered, however Priority Mail Express items will still be delivered as that service functions year round.
Following those holiday closures, Post Offices will be open and regular mail delivery resumes on Tuesday, Dec. 26, and Tuesday, Jan. 2. As a reminder, blue collection boxes are not serviced on Sundays or federal holidays.

The United States Postal Service posts it’s official holidays here. If the holiday falls on a Sunday, the holiday is usually observed on Monday. If the holiday falls on Saturday, then the holiday is observed on that Saturday. The observed holidays are listed in the tables below.
Note: When a federal holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the legal public holiday will be the closest weekday to the actual holiday. For example, in 2017, New Year’s Day fell on a Sunday so the following day, Monday, January 2, was treated as a holiday. Print Postage with Stamps.com
