They are now offering me the jcpenney Mastercard which will replace the department store card. The APR will be 27.99% which they said is the APR that all jcpenney card holders get regardless of how good your credit is. The thing is I have 2 credit cards and this jcpenney department store card all of which are in good standing.

Jcp should report, its a gecrb card and they report au accounts. Although if you live at a different address and the card only asked for AU's name (which i think ge does) it might not be able to find you. Also definitely need your own credit for a mortgage, but from what I've read apping should stop at least 1 year before mortgage shopping.
Re: reopening a closed jc penney account. I wish I could bring good news on this - but I've checked with JCPenney and the answer is a firm no. A card would involve an inquiry and a new account even if you had a previously closed account with them. On the other hand, I'm a big believer in asking anyway - it couldn't hurt!
Re: JCPenney credit card app. It sounds as if your approved. I would wait patiently and see if you get the card. The card takes a while, what you could also do is call their Customer Service number at 800-542-0800 and ask them to see if they have an account under your SSN. Good luck.

What I did notice was that last year's wave of upgrades coincided with CVS' discontinued acceptance of the JCP store card as payment. Since Rite Aid still accepts the JCP card and doesn't appear to be ending their acceptance, I don't know if we'll see another wave of upgrades like last year.

They were offering a discount on purchases made that day (some restrictions), if you were approved.
