If northern New England was francophone like Montreal, or South Louisiana still spoke Cajun and Creole French widely, or if South Florida was 90% Spanish speaking then I'd think there would be real culture shock. Never experienced such culture shock! It was the first time I'd been west of the Mississippi, I wasn't prepared for the weather, the altitude, the terrain or the culture. The dry thin air was the worst, all my nails snapped off, my hair was so flyaway I only washed it once a week. Cooking at that altitude was a challenge also.
