"The abandoned Builders Square store, located across the street from Meyerland Plaza, is being demolished and replaced with a Lowe's Home Improvement store. The 150,000-square-foot Lowe's store will be built on a 14.8-acre site that Lowe's is leasing at the southeast corner of the West Loop and Beechnut. The new store will open in late 2002.

Believe it or not, Lowe's (!!) carries a few Cork styles/colors in a modern click-lock sandwich-laminate (cork glued to a laminate core), so installation is easy. The solid core means it won't hold dents from furniture, and it sells for under $5 sq/ft.

The Sage I grew up with was at Beechnut at Post Oak before there was a West Loop. It's where Lowe's is now. I was intrigued by their carts that would roll the purchases outside for you to drive up and get. I recall that I bought Led Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti there. My first rock album.....

It used to be called the Four Palms, aka The Pressure Cooker. The story goes that frustrated housewives went there in the afternoon looking for love in all the wrong places and were then forced to use pressure cookers to get the food on the table by the time their husbands got home.
