Department of Labor and Employment. Founded on December 8, 1933, the Department of Labor and Employment is the government agency overseeing the labor market of the Philippines. It is tasked to implement the Labor Code and other labor and employment-related policies of the government.
The Labor Code of the Philippines specifies two types of holidays: the "regular holiday" and the "special non-working day". [8] There is a difference in the pay that employers are required to pay between the two type of holidays. There is also a difference in what is closed and in how the days are declared.
Regular holiday pay Article 93 and 94 of the Philippine Labor Code states that a worker shall be paid his regular daily wage during regular holidays whether or not the employee goes to work. The employer can require an employee to work on any holiday, but the employee must be paid an amount double his regular wage. [10]
