Supreme Court. The Washington Supreme Court is the state supreme court of Washington. It is the highest court in the state and is based in the Temple of Justice at the Washington State Capitol campus in the state capital of Olympia . Almost all the cases that the Court hears are appeals from the decisions of the Washington Court of Appeals.
There are a total of 32 Superior Court districts for the 39 counties of Washington, with most districts consisting of a single county. While each county has a Superior Court, some of the less populated counties are grouped into a single district, sharing a single judge and administration.

Unlike the Supreme Court, where one justice is specifically nominated to be chief, the office of chief judge rotates among the district court judges. To be chief, a judge must have been in active service on the court for at least one year, be under the age of 65, and have not previously served as chief judge.
