The system fetches a one-time copy of the template text and substitutes it into the page in place of the template tag. If anyone edits the template afterwards, pages that used the subst: keyword do not update. Sometimes that is what you want. If the template that you want to edit looks like {{foo}}, you would go to Template:foo to edit it.
Article Layout Template. This is a dummy article to help you get started with creating pages in the wiki. The first paragraph is usually a short dictionary-style definition of the subject matter. The gives the reader a quick answer, which may be all they required, and reassures them that they have come to the right page.
When several templates work together or are very similar then it is often clearer and easier to maintain one single documentation page that documents them together.
