As Bets says, we did hike the Tour du Mont Blanc in 2018, going on a guided hike with REI Adventures. We did six segments of the 100+ mile trail (there are variants that have different total mileage), with 6 overnights in village hotels or mountain inns. So we did not walk every step of the circuit, but I believe we walked the most scenic sections.

The tour du Mont Blanc is about 8 hours of mountain hiking per day for more than a week with significant elevation changes . Not sure than a 100 mile mountain hike is the favorite activity of the Rick Steves forums visitors, but you never know...
You can also go hiking with a guide on the ice fields surrounding Mont Blanc...one of the great adventures in the alps IMHO. Seems that you are referring to Tour du Mont Blanc, which is usually unguided. The trails, while steep and strenuous, are well marked and there are plenty of huts (which need reservations). Our mountain experience would be more along the lines of cable car rides, cog wheel train rides, mountain coasters, lunch on the terrace with great views, sitting on the balcony enjoying the view. I just watched Rick Steves episode on the cable car ride up to Mont Blanc, which started me thinking about Chamonix.
Tour du Mont Blanc shouldn't take more than 10 days at a relaxed pace; of course you can spend a few extra days in Chamonix and/or Courmayeur, but you would probably need other things planned to fill 21 days.
