  2. Rick’s hike around Mt Blanc - Rick Steves Travel Forum

    community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/france/rick-s-hike-around-mt-blanc

As Bets says, we did hike the Tour du Mont Blanc in 2018, going on a guided hike with REI Adventures. We did six segments of the 100+ mile trail (there are variants that have different total mileage), with 6 overnights in village hotels or mountain inns. So we did not walk every step of the circuit, but I believe we walked the most scenic sections.

  3. hiking Monte Blanc - Rick Steves Travel Forum

There have been other incidents of glacier collapse and other issues (icefall, rockfall) caused by warming, and they have affected the actual climb to the summit Mont Blanc. Many climbing routes up the mountain (and others such as the Matterhorn) are closed. But I have not heard anything about the Tour du Mont Blanc, a village to village or hut ...

    community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/france/mont-blanc-circle-trek

The tour du Mont Blanc is about 8 hours of mountain hiking per day for more than a week with significant elevation changes . Not sure than a 100 mile mountain hike is the favorite activity of the Rick Steves forums visitors, but you never know...

  5. Chamonix/Mont Blanc vs. Berner Oberland - Rick Steves

You can also go hiking with a guide on the ice fields surrounding Mont Blanc...one of the great adventures in the alps IMHO. The feel of this part of the French alps is just different than Switzerland...less pastoral. More rugged. Check out this view...there is a mountain refuge just out of the frame to the left. Have a beer on the deck and ...

REI Adventures no longer runs international trips, but our guide also works for Mountain Travel Sobek, and they run the same trip. She is a member of the Guides de Chamonix, and they also offer guided Tour du Mont Blanc trekking tours (for considerably less than the companies I mentioned):

  7. Mont Blanc hiking for the 'average' level of fitness

    community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/france/mont-blanc-hiking-for-the-average...

Mont Blanc isn't the place to start learning these things if only because I believe time will be at a premium. My friends have done it, climbed to the summit of Mont Blanc that is - a husband and wife couple, but their levels of fitness are above and beyond mere mortals like myself (I like to joke that they get me into scrapes, but more ...

  8. Choosing a guide for MOnt de Blanc hike - Rick Steves

    community.ricksteves.com/.../choosing-a-guide-for-mont-de-blanc-hike

Seems that you are referring to Tour du Mont Blanc, which is usually unguided. The trails, while steep and strenuous, are well marked and there are plenty of huts (which need reservations). There are indeed outfits/agencies that can help with luggage transportation services and/or hut reservations, and some agencies do organize guided hikes as ...

  9. Chamonix, France vs. Grindelwald, Switzerland for alps experience

    community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/general-europe/chamonix-france-vs...

Our mountain experience would be more along the lines of cable car rides, cog wheel train rides, mountain coasters, lunch on the terrace with great views, sitting on the balcony enjoying the view. I just watched Rick Steves episode on the cable car ride up to Mont Blanc, which started me thinking about Chamonix.

  10. Tour de Mont-Blanc July 2022 - Rick Steves Travel Forum

    community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/general-europe/tour-de-mont-blanc-july-2022

Tour du Mont Blanc shouldn't take more than 10 days at a relaxed pace; of course you can spend a few extra days in Chamonix and/or Courmayeur, but you would probably need other things planned to fill 21 days.

Sarah, in this link Rick writes that, "We booked a hiking tour with Macs Adventure: 10 miles a day for six days, hiking from mountain lodge to mountain lodge, for $300 a day — with hotels, dinners, baggage shuttle service, and a helpful app with trail advice included. A big part of the value was simply knowing which hotels and lodges would be ...
