The first Albanian postal stamps were issued on 5 May 1913. Under this government, six different stamps were produced. On 7 July 1913, the Albanian Provisional Government applied to become a member of the General Postal Union, a process that was completed on 1 March 1922. During this time, 17 offices were connected by 1,400 km (870 mi) of cables.

On September 25, 2013, the USPS announced a 3-cent increase in the First Class postal rate, effective January 26, 2014, increasing the price of a stamp to 49 cents.
