    It's default palette is really nice for this stuff, as it has lots of hues on similar bit ranges, so often changing the colour of your characters shirt can be done with a bit of bit twiddling or changing the palette entries.     On the plus side for the 8-bit style, the action is focused on key frames and the environment has clearly defined platforms, while the higher-bit artwork uses larger sprite work with a lot of extra frames thrown in there that make the animation look "floaty" and kinda fuzz out the sharp definitions for platforms.

    Aseprite! It's the best thing on the market for pixel art right now (and probably for a long time coming, too). it's not free but it's super cheap and it's got so many features tailored towards pixel art that higher-end art programs skip out on. As far as I'm concerned it's the only program worth using for it!

    This is not true. 64 bit architecture, generally, means that each core can process 64 bits at a time. (It's more complicated than that, but I'm simplifying). Pixel formats vary, but most tend to be 8 bits per channel. 24 bit color gives you the "16 million" number you'll see advertised on monitors.
