USD /JPY exchange rate 1971–2023. The yen ( Japanese: 円, symbol: ¥; code: JPY) is the official currency of Japan. It is the third-most traded currency in the foreign exchange market, after the United States dollar and the euro. [ 2] It is also widely used as a third reserve currency after the US dollar and the euro.
A widely traded currency pair is the relation of the euro against the US dollar, designated as EUR / USD. The quotation EUR/USD 1.2500 means that one euro is exchanged for 1.2500 US dollars. Here, EUR is the base currency and USD is the quote currency (counter currency). This means that 1 Euro can be exchangeable to 1.25 US Dollars.
The data on exchange rate for Japanese Yen is in per 100 Yen. The end year rate for 1998–99 pertain to March 26, 1999 of Deutsche Mark rate. Data from 1971 to 1991–92 are based on official exchange rates. Data from 1992 to 1993 onward are based on FEDAI (Foreign Exchange Dealers' Association of India) indicative rates.
