In comparison I was sold a bad fridge by whirlpool, and because I didn't buy the protection plan from home depot I had to go through the company's warranty which was a nightmare, and get a replacement when it would have been better to just get the money back and buy another brand. Get the protection plan. Washers and dryers don't last anymore.
I used to work for a manufacturer of mid to high end appliances. From what I saw home Depot or other home warranty type companies would send someone out 3-4 times to try to fix what was usually a simple issue before they would give permission to hire an outside of contract repair company.
