Wikipedia avoids unnecessary capitalization.In English, capitalization is primarily needed for proper names, acronyms, and for the first letter of a sentence. Wikipedia relies on sources to determine what is conventionally capitalized; only words and phrases that are consistently capitalized in a substantial majority of independent, reliable sources are capitalized in Wikipedia.
The simplest de-capitalization rule is to capitalize if, and only if, the title is directly used as a title in front of a name, so "President Nixon" but everywhere else "president". Different rules exist also concerning the question whether the first letter after a colon should be capitalized. The following guidelines form a compromise between the various conventions in use. Do not use a capital letter after a colon. An exception to 1 may be made if the colon could be replaced by a full stop.
Manual of Style (MoS) This is a style guide for military history articles. It is intended to provide editors working on such articles with recommendations in relation to article naming conventions, formatting and presentation, template use, and categories.
Capitalize only the following words: the first word of the title or heading; the first word of a subtitle; the first word after a colon, em dash,or end punctuation in a heading; nouns followed by numerals or letters; proper nouns." These style guides aren't arbitrarily picked.
Wikipedia does not follow its own rules here. The rules say that prepositions and coordinating conjunctions that are less than five letters long, should be un-capitalized. Coordinating conjunctions are: or, and, nor, but, or, yet, and so. Of these nor, but and yet are capitalized on Wikipedia.
