The Fairfax Christian School started as a Kindergarten through 8th grade institution before adding the 9th grade in 1964, 10th grade in 1965, 11th grade in 1966, and 12th grade in 1967. The first class of high school students graduated in the spring of 1968, the same year the school's total student population peaked at more than 650.
The state took control of the school in 1916 and renamed it Maryland State College. That year, the first female students enrolled at the school.
