Point of lay . These are chickens in the first stage of laying eggs, usually at 4 or 5 months of age. If you do not have much time to raise chicks, but urgently need eggs, you can buy chickens at the point of lay. They are stronger than pullets and chicks and do not require special care. The eggs get bigger and bigger as the chickens get older.

Chicks are clumsy and can easily fall into water dishes and get drenched or even drown. A common device to prevent drowning is to use a shallow water cup or pan of water with marbles or small, clean pebbles set in the water over the entire drinking area. The chicks will drink in the spaces between the marbles/pebbles.
New Jersey. Tractor Supply sells many varieties of chicks each spring and autumn. Try posting on the New Jersey state thread. If you are interested in show quality birds attend the Sussex Co. poultry show in April. All county fairs have started pullets raised by 4 H members for sale in the fall.
My RK says minimum of 6 on the signs, but they will let you buy 2 or 3. Also- I saw that Hoover's Hatchery is selling started pullets (6-8 weeks old) with a minimum order of 4. They had several breed options too. That may be a good way to get your 4 and be more sure that you are receiving pullets! May 8, 2018. #7.

Getting adult birds means you cut back on feed, time, etc but it also means there's a good chance they will be skittish, fearful, aggressive, carrying diseases or lice, or are someone's culls (don't lay well, too old, aren't what you want, etc) Oct 15, 2011. #3.
Usually places that sell animal feed, have chickens for sale. Also pulgueros or flea markets got chickens and animals for sale. Tbh there are chickens all over the island. on the west side of the Island, the town of San Sebastián do a market just to sell animals, but I’m sure due to Corona, it’s is probably cancelled.

Brooding costs are a bit higher, since ambient temps are colder. (Note: I ONLY brood outdoors in an unheated garage or in the barn)

My preference is to keep them on at least 18% until they are ready for layer at 16%. You did well to find 3 week old chicks. They will need very little if any heat, and if they use it at all, it will most likely only be at night for perhaps a week.
