The 2024 Tokyo Marathon was the 17th edition of the annual marathon race in Tokyo, held on Sunday, 3 March 2024. A Platinum Label marathon, it was the first of six annual World Marathon Majors events to be held in 2024. [1] With over 37,000 competitors, new course records were set in both the men's and women's races.
The Tokyo Marathon is one of six World Marathon Majors and has been contested annually since 2007, except in 2020 when it was an elite-only race due to the COVID-19 pandemic and in 2021, when the marathon was postponed to 2022 due to the continuing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The men's marathon has been present on the Olympic athletics programme since the inaugural edition in 1896.. All three medalists in Tokyo returned: 2016 and 2020 gold medalist Eliud Kipchoge from Kenya, 2020 silver medalist Abdi Nageeye from the Netherlands, and 2020 bronze medalist Bashir Abdi from Belgium.
