John Huppenthal (born March 3, 1954) is an American politician who served as Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction from 2011 to 2015. Prior to being elected Superintendent, Huppenthal served as City Councilman, State Representative, and State Senator. Huppenthal was also a Senior Planning Analyst for Salt River Project.

Glendale High School was founded as Glendale Union High School in 1901 by the residents of the villages of Glendale, La Crescenta, Burbank, Eagle Rock, Ivanhoe, Tropico and West Glendale. The first classes were held at the Glendale Hotel. The first principal was Mr. Llewellyn Evans and the school had two teachers and 29 students.
In 1955, voters in Oceanside and Carlsbad voted and approved a $1.26 million dollar construction bond that funded the building of Carlsbad's first public high school. Carlsbad High School first opened in 1957. It underwent major redevelopment from 2009 to 2012. In 2010, the Acadamic Performance Index for the school was 812.
