Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) is the second largest public university in Bangladesh.Its expansive campus, covering an area of 5.10 square kilometers (1.97 sq mi), is situated in rural-urban mixed surroundings, approximately 3 kilometers (1.9 mi) south of the metropolitan city Mymensingh.
Since its inception in 1938, the BAI had been functioning as a Faculty of Agriculture under Dhaka University. After the establishment of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) at Mymensingh in 1961, its academic function was transferred to BAU in 1964, until its upgrade to Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University in 2001.
It was an academic part of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) and associated academically with Bangladesh Agricultural University. IPSA was transformed in an autonomous institution by the government of Bangladesh and started course credit based MS and Ph.D. programs in 1991.
