Each year we rescue thousands of dogs who have been lost, discarded, abandoned, injured, or neglected within in Franklin County. We do everything we can to find a loving and responsible new homes for every adoptable dog or puppy that enters our care.

Our website offers real-time updates on all current adoptables! No appointments are needed and no pre-application is required to adopt. If you see a dog on our website that you are interested in meeting, please visit our adoption center in-person during adoption hours.
Franklin County Dog Shelter & Adoption Center is committed to saving lives. Our shelter is the largest county shelter in Ohio. Last year we took in 9,819 dogs and puppies, including all stray dogs in the county as well as owner surrenders and unwanted litters of puppies.
Pet FBI is a free information center for lost and found dogs, cats and all other pets. Their site allows you to search their user-friendly database, post your own report and get automatic alerts, and learn what to do and who to contact if you find a stray dog.
The Franklin County Department of Animal Care and Control provides field animal control services to the citizens of Franklin County twenty-four hours a day, every day of the year. We are responsible for the enforcement of Ohio's vicious, dangerous and nuisance dog laws in Franklin County.
Donations can be brought to the shelter at any time! The shelter has a contactless and weatherproof donation shed located on the outside of the building that is checked by staff throughout the day. The donation shed is located to the left of the "Lost dog" entrance in the front of the building.
Attend an in-person New Volunteer Orientation. Complete the online Instinct Dog Behavior & Training Leash Reactive Dog Course. Complete your in-person One-on-One Training Session #1. Return to the shelter to independently practice and reinforce your dog-handling skills.
