The Nevada Test and Training Range land area is mostly Central Basin and Range ecoregion (cf. southernmost portion in the Mojave Desert), [4]: 3–1 and smaller ecoregions (e.g., Tonopah Basin, Tonopah Playa, & Bald Mountain biomes) are within the area of numerous basin and range landforms of the NTTR.
The post office was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on October 7, 2005 as US Post Office, Ely, Nevada. [1] [13] The post office remained vacant until it was purchased by the nearby Hotel Nevada and Gambling Hall , which reopened the building as its Postal Palace convention center on December 15, 2005.
To the west is Ely, Nevada, while to the east are Spring Valley and the high Snake Range, (including Great Basin National Park, Wheeler Peak, and Mt. Moriah). Within this section of the Schell Creek Range are Cave Lake State Park and the scenic road over Success Summit into Duck Creek Basin.
In Ely, US 6 first departs and heads west toward Tonopah. Then, shortly thereafter, US 50 departs US 93 to continue west toward Fallon and Reno (via U.S. Route 50 Alternate west, U.S. Route 95 Alternate north, and Interstate 80 [I-80] west) and Carson City .
The Ely Shoshone Indian Reservation is an Indian reservation for the Ely Shoshone Tribe of Nevada, Shoshone people, in and near the south side of the city of Ely in south-central White Pine County, Nevada. In 2005 it had a population of around 500, a textile business, and its own court system.
Ward Charcoal Ovens State Historic Park is an area designated for historic preservation and public recreation located 20 miles (32 km) south of the town of Ely in White Pine County, Nevada. The 700-acre (280 ha) state park protects beehive-shaped charcoal ovens constructed in the latter half of the 19th century.
State Route 168 (SR 168) is a state highway in Clark County, Nevada, United States.Known as the Glendale–Moapa Road, the highway connects U.S. Route 93 (US 93) to Interstate 15 (I-15) at Glendale about 25 miles (40 km) southeast.
At what is now U.S. Route 93, the Lincoln Highway turned south, passing through McGill to Ely. In the mid-1920s, the routing was realigned to enter Nevada via the Wendover Cut-off. The road then headed south towards Ely along what is now Alternate U.S. Route 93. From Ely to Fallon, the highway followed U.S. Route 50 through Eureka and Austin.
