If you want to change or reset the password you use to sign in to Windows, you have different options. This article outlines the different approaches you can take, whether you’re using a Microsoft account or a local account, logged in or at the sign-in screen.
From the Password security tile, select Change my password. On the Change your password page, enter your current password and then enter your new password. For additional security, select the optional checkbox which prompts you to update your password every 72 days.

Change your password with your email provider. See the following sections for instructions on changing your email account password for several major email providers. If your email account provider isn't listed, contact your admin or the email provider's help desk.
Change your password in Outlook.com. Your Outlook.com password is the same as your Microsoft account password. Go to Microsoft account security and select Password security. As a security measure, you might be prompted to verify your identity with a security code.
If you know your password, but just want to change it, go to account.microsoft.com Security tab, and select Change my password. If you know your username and password but they have stopped working, read My username and password have stopped working.
The Change password page of the My Account portal helps you to update an existing password for your work or school account, assuming you remember the password and that you're not locked out of your account.

You'll need to ensure that the password stored in Microsoft Edge matches the password you've set for the website. Go to Settings and more > Settings > Profiles > Passwords . Next to the password you want to change, select More actions , and then select Edit .
