From Prehistoric people to the Jeaga and. Belle Glade Culture to the Seminoles, Native Americans have lived in Palm Beach County for thousands of years. About 12,000 years ago, when the last Ice Age ended, the first people moved onto the land now known as Florida.
Their motto, “Love it and leave it alone,” discouraged streetlights, sewers, and paved roads. To avoid unwelcome changes in the town known as “Florida’s Last Frontier,” Loxahatchee Groves incorporated in 2006 and became Palm Beach County’s 38th municipality.

There he was able to observe civil rights activists such as Thurgood Marshall, and met and married Gwendolyn Baker of West Palm Beach. They settled here in 1950.

Tequesta Country Club was semi-public until 1963, when the members purchased it from Martyn. Several subdivisions were built in Tequesta during the early 1960s after big industry arrived in northern Palm Beach County, such as Pratt and Whitney Aircraft (1958) and RCA (1960).
Florida has more barrier islands than any other state. In Palm Beach County, a number of low, narrow barrier islands separate the mainland from the Atlantic Ocean and help protect it from erosion caused by the pounding waves and harsh winds of storms.
