IEC 60309 (formerly IEC 309 and CEE 17, also published by CENELEC as EN 60309) is a series of international standards from the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) for "plugs, socket-outlets and couplers for industrial purposes".
A closely related but different design is the so-called "pin tip plug" and matching "pin tip jack". Its plug design resembles the banana plug but without the spring on the male pin; instead, it relies on spring action in the female jack, or tightly machined tolerances, to ensure good contact. The diameter of the male pin is 2 mm.
