    answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/all/how-to-compress-excel-file/...

If the workbook is a .xlsx, .xlsm or .xlsb workbook, it is already compressed - such workbooks are actually .zip files with a different extension. If the workbook is a .xls workbook (Excel 97-2003 format), see if you can open it on another computer with more memory. If that succeeds, save the workbook as an Excel Binary Workbook (extension .xlsb).

Double click on that folder name to open another folder, and then just drag your file to the zip-folder window to copy it into there. You should find that the zipped folder is significantly smaller than your 4M Excel file, and you can attach this to an email. Hope this helps. Pete. Dev_704.

    answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/zipped-folders-does-not-compress...

My 20.8 MB folder becomes 20.4 MB when I compress and zip. Is it normal? That depends on what kinds of file are in the folder, and what kind of compression is used. Let's take picture files, for example. The most popular picture formats, including .jpeg and .png, are already compressed, so compressing them further won't get you very far.

  10. Compress picture function not work - Microsoft Community

    answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/all/compress-picture-function-not...

jake777! I have the same compression issue and can conclude that it is something wrong in Excel 2010 because the exact same pictures added to an Excel 2007 file make the file about 7 megs as compared to an Excel 2010 file size of about 95 megs. Again, same pictures. The Compress Pictures feature does not reduce the file size at all.

  11. Macro to compress all images on Excel Worksheets to reduce file...

    answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/all/macro-to-compress-all-images-on...

Rather than use a macro, just untick the box in the 'compress pictures' dialog you have shown above that says 'Apply only to this picture'. This will then apply the compression to every picture in the workbook. Regards. Murray. https://excel.dadsonion.com. Thanks for your feedback, it helps us improve the site. Replies (2) .
