Lamoine State Park is a public recreation area occupying 55 acres (22 ha) on the shore of Frenchman's Bay in the town of Lamoine, Maine. The state park offers broad views of the mountains on Mount Desert Island, the narrow Eastern Bay portion of Frenchman Bay, and Lamoine's working waterfront.
The park was created in the 1940s as one of Maine's original five state parks after the land was acquired from the Federal government in 1939. [2] The park's borders were extended across Maine Route 9 with the addition of the Knight Woods parcels in the 1990s and 2000s.
The first two parks were formed from donated land in 1915, and by 1929 the state had seven parks. In 1947 the State Parks Committee was renamed to the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission and given authority to oversee the state park system. By 1960 the number of state parks had increased to 130.
