IMAP/ POP/ Active Sync is not the same as forwarding. Forwarding is directly forwarding the email to a designated email address. There are two kinds of forwarding in Zoho Mail: Unconditional forwarding. Conditional forwarding under "filters". Zoho clearly stated that the first one isn't supported in the free plan. It's possibly the reason, but I thought even paid user could downgrade to free plan, the free version is quite limited no IMAP/SMTP just web access and possibly the Zoho mail app. The paid version of Zoho mail is reasonably priced at around $/€/£1 per user, so if you're using it for business, the cost shouldn't be a problem.
