    The Final Cause of a Chicago Admissions policy should be finding kids who will flourish at Chicago. Q.E.D. There are many arrows in that quiver, but one of them would surely be the privileging of those who select Chicago ED. Having some real experience of the place in a summer program just multiplies the effect.

    I believe that people who attend certain Chicago public schools get ED1 decisions early. UChicago’s website says: “…any first-year applicant from qualifying Chicago Public Schools and charter high schools who applies to UChicago under our [Early Decision I (EDI) application option] will receive an admissions decision two weeks after completing their full application.”

    Ah. Makes it a bit tougher of an explanation since A2 is so safe. I have a family friend at U Chic right now, loves it, family is what I’d consider culturally more “conservative” (not hippies) and they are happy with her experience there and are also pretty familiar with Chicago.
